Donald K. Ingram, PhD

Scientific Advisor, Kronos Longevity Research Institute

Donald Ingram is currently a Senior Investigator and Section Chief of the Behavior Neuroscience Section at the National Institute on Aging (NIA). He is also Acting Chief of the Laboratory of Experimental Gerontology at the NIA. Prior to his roles at the NIA, he served as a postdoctoral fellow at the Jackson Laboratory. While working at the NIA from 1984-2000, he also served on the adjunct faculty of Johns Hopkins University.

Over the past two decades, Dr. Ingram’s research has involved developing behavioral assays of aging in rodents and recently in primates with focus on motor and memory performance as well as assessing various pharmacological, genetic and nutritional interventions that affect brain aging. He has been involved in the development of patented pharmaceuticals for treatment of memory dysfunction. His contribution also includes an extensive background in calorie restriction, including a longitudinal study in monkeys.

Dr. Ingram has authored more than 250 publications in his field and has served on several editorial boards of aging journals, including the Neurobiology of Aging and the Journals of Gerontology. Currently, he is the editor for North America for Gerontology and editor-in-chief for the Journal of the American Aging Association.

He has organized numerous scientific meetings and has also served in various capacities in the leadership of gerontological organizations, including as President of the American Aging Association in 1999. In recognition of his work, Dr. Ingram received the National Institutes of Health Merit Award in 1996. He is also the 2002 recipient of the Harman Research Award given by the American Aging Association.

Dr. Ingram received his doctorate in philosophy in both psychology and gerontology from the University of Georgia and received his Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Louisiana State University.
