Eliot A. Brinton, MDScientific Advisor, Kronos Longevity Research InstituteEliot Brinton is currently Director of the Metabolism Section of Cardiovascular Genetics and Associate Professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City. Prior to his roles at the University of Utah, Dr. Brinton served on the faculties of Arizona State University, University of Arizona, Wake Forest University and Rockefeller University. He also served as Chief of Metabolism, Endocrinology and Nutrition at the Carl T. Hayden Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Brinton's areas of special clinical expertise include dyslipidemias and prevention of atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus and insulin resistance, obesity, estrogen replacement, osteoporosis and erectile dysfunction. His primary research focus is on mechanisms of human HDL metabolism in vivo and in vitro, including the effects of diet, exercise, estrogen and insulin resistance. He also has research interests into the antiatherogenic mechanisms of HDL and insulin sensitivity. He has authored more than 25 peer-reviewed publications, has received many peer-reviewed research grants and has held numerous leadership and advisory positions in scientific and governmental organizations. He is a founding board member of the National Lipid Association. He has served as section editor for Current Opinion in Atherosclerosis, is an editor for Lipids Online, and is a reviewer for numerous scientific publications including Circulation, Journal of Lipid Research, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Diabetes Care, and Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology. Dr. Brinton is a grant review panel member for the American Diabetes Association, and has served as ad hoc lipid study section grant reviewer and Clinical Research Center site visitor for the NIH. He received a National Research Service Award (1981) and the Clinical Investigator Award (1987) from the NIH, and a Merit Review Award (1996) from the VA. Dr. Brinton earned his doctorate in medicine from the University of Utah and performed his residency in internal medicine at Duke University. He received his fellowship training in endocrinology at the University of Washington in Seattle. |
