Isadore Newman, PhD

Scientific Advisor, Kronos Longevity Research Institute

Isadore Newman is currently a licensed psychologist and Distinguished Professor at the University of Akron, where he teaches graduate courses in evaluation, research design and statistical analysis. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine and the Associate Director of The Institute for Life Span Development and Gerontology. Prior to these positions, he served as the Scientific Director of the Cardiovascular Health and Rehabilitation Institute for the SUMMA Health System and as a consultant for the U.S. Army, the Ohio National Guard and a variety of mental health agencies, hospitals and school districts.

Dr. Newman’s research interests are broad-based with the emphasis on research methodology. Most recently his work has dealt with testing non-nil null hypotheses, modeling data, developing alternative approaches for Goodness-of-Fit and integrating quantitative and qualitative methodology. The common thread to all of his methodological interests has been fitting the analyses to the research question.

During his professional career, Dr. Newman has directed and/or served on more than 300 doctoral committees and has presented hundreds of papers at state, national and international meetings. He has co-authored more than 100 referenced articles and has written 13 books and monographs. Much of his work has been in the area of research methodology.

He is currently on the editorial board for the Journal of Mixed Methods Research and the Mid-Western Educational Researcher, and is a Research Methodology Section Editor for the Journal of Educational Research. He has also served on editorial boards for the Ohio Journal of Science, Multiple Linear Regression Viewpoints, Journal of Applied Behavioral Analysis, American Educational Research Journal and Psychological Bulletin.

Dr. Newman received his Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Miami; his Master of Arts in psychology from the Graduate Faculty, New School for Social Research in New York; and his doctorate in philosophy in educational psychology with a specialty in statistics and measurement from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
