Kerry J. Stewart, EdD

Scientific Advisor, Kronos Longevity Research Institute

Kerry J. Stewart is currently a Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Director of Johns Hopkins Clinical and Research Exercise Physiology, which encompasses the cardiac rehabilitation and clinical exercise physiology programs at Johns Hopkins. He is an Exercise Physiologist with clinical and research experience in the area of exercise testing and training of patients with chronic diseases, including hypertension, coronary disease, diabetes, obesity, cancer and coronary risk factor assessment and modification in adults and children.

Dr. Stewart is also a fellow of the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), the American College of Sports Medicine and the Society of Geriatric Cardiology. He has published extensively on the role of exercise training in high-risk populations and lectures widely on this topic.

His current research is focused on exercise training in patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension, the effects of weight loss on cardiac outcomes in type 2 diabetes, exercise for chronic heart failure and physical activity to reduce fatigue in patients undergoing cancer treatment.

Dr. Stewart was a contributing author to the guidelines for weight training for the Guidelines for Cardiac Rehabilitation published by AACVPR, and for exercise training and testing for peripheral artery disease for the American College of Sports Medicine Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription. He is on the writing committees for the American Heart Association’s scientific position statements for cardiac rehabilitation and secondary prevention and for resistance training in individuals with and without heart disease. He is also a Past President of AACVPR.

Dr. Stewart received his Bachelor of Science from the Brooklyn College of the City University of New York. He then went on to receive his Master of Arts, Master of Education and his doctorate in physiology at Columbia University. Dr. Stewart also received a certificate in business accounting from Catonsville Community College.
