Lawrence S. Phillips, MD

Scientific Advisor, Kronos Longevity Research Institute

Lawrence S. Phillips is currently Program Director at the General Clinical Research Center at Emory University. He is also a partner at the Emory Clinic. Prior to these positions, Dr. Phillips served as Director of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism in the Department of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. He was a Professor of Medicine and Associate Professor of Physiology at Emory University in 1983 and was previously an Associate Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University Medical School. Dr. Phillips has also held positions as Assistant Physician at Barnes Hospital in Missouri, Fellow in Metabolism at Washington University School of Medicine, Instructor in Medicine at Emory University and Staff Associate at Grady Memorial Hospital.

During his professional career, Dr. Phillips has served on multiple scientific review boards including the Roerig-Pfizer Academic Advisory Committee, multiple boards for the American Diabetes Association, the Georgia Department of Human Resources Diabetes Advisory Board and the NIH DDK-B Special Grants Review Committee for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism. Dr. Phillips has also served on a number of editorial boards for Endocrinology, Core Journals in Clinical Endocrinology and Diabetes. He has also served as a reviewer for Diabetes, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism and the Journal of Clinical Investigation. Dr. Phillips also serves on a number of medical center committees.

Dr. Phillips has written a total of 150 peer review articles as well as 35 book chapters and review articles. He has also been the recipient of many grant awards during his role as principal investigator or program director. Some of these awards include, the Field Centers for Women’s Health Initiative Extension from the NIH/NHLBI from 2005-2008, the Emory-Morehouse Partnership to reduce CV disparities from the National Institutes of Health from 2004-2009, Cardiovascular risk identification and prevention in patients with early abnormalities in glucose tolerance from the National Institutes of Health from 2004-2009, screening for IGT: Glucose Challenge vs. Predictive Model (P.I.) from the National Institutes of Health from 2004-2008 and Depression-Diabetes Mechanisms: Urban African-Americans (Co-I.) from the National Institutes of Health from 2003-2008. Dr. Phillips has also received the Elliot P. Joslin Research and Development Award from the American Diabetes Association and was listed in The Best Doctors in America in 1998.

Dr. Phillips received a Bachelor of Arts with honors from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania in 1963. He then received his doctorate of medicine from Harvard Medical School in 1967. He was board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1972 and board certified by the Subspecialty Boards in Endocrinology and Metabolism in 1973.
