M. Akif Buyukbese, MDClinical Research Fellow, Kronos Longevity Research InstituteDr. Buyukbese is a Clinical Research Fellow at Kronos Longevity Research Institute (KLRI). He assists in the development of new research protocols and the evaluation and interpretation of research results. Prior to KLRI, Dr. Buyukbese was an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Gaziantep in Turkey where he focused on diabetes management, patient education and research. He also gave lectures at the medical school, performed clinical research, trained residents, and was responsible for patient care in both the outpatient and inpatient departments. Dr. Buyukbese has also worked at the Leicester University Clinical Diabetes Research Center in the UK. His work here focused on different metabolic syndrome criteria, ankle brachial pressure index in patients with impaired glucose tolerance, and attitudes of healthcare professionals on insulin treatment. He also founded the Internal Medicine Department in Kahramanmaras City, Turkey where he established the Diabetes House, which served as an insulin bank for diabetic patients who did not have insurance. Dr. Buyukbese is a member of several organizations including the American Diabetes Foundation, International Diabetes Foundation and the European Society of Cardiology. He also serves on the advisory boards of journals such as the Open Inflammatory Journal, International Journal of Osteoporosis and Metabolic Disorders, and Asian Journal of Clinical Nutrition. In addition, Dr. Buyukbese has received awards from the Turkish Diabetes Foundation and Living Well with Diabetes. Dr. Buyukbese received his doctorate in medicine as well as trained in internal medicine at the University of Istanbul in Turkey. He has written more than 100 scientific publications (both in Turkish and English). |
