Kronos Reperfusion Oxidative Stress Study

Snapshot

Kronos Reperfusion Oxidative Stress Study (KROSS): Oxidative stress is the imbalance between production and activity of oxidant molecules versus antioxidant capacity and is believed to be a key mechanism in the aging process and age-related diseases. The objective of the study was to examine the effects of aging and/or gender differences on the pattern of responses to localized oxidative stress by measuring changes in levels of free F2-isoprostane, a product of spontaneous oxidation of fatty acids, in blood and urine samples. KLRI recruited 32 healthy, non-smoking adults with 16 participants between ages 20 to 35 and 16 participants ages 60 and above.
